Erika Wong walks the talk. More than simply saying that she wants to help people, she goes out and does it.

After a visit to Gawad Kalinga, Erika was inspired to take a step further and provide a livelihood for the community members she interacted with. Erika saw the need to jumpstart a dairy enterprise. She knew that there were many opportunities to capitalize on the local industry. She was also aware that the average farmer did not earn much for their labor.

Erika does her best to take the good with the bad. Her job allows her to meet all kinds of people, all of whom are doing their best to help make this world a better place.

Before she started the business, she lived on a farm in Angat, Bulacan to really get a feel for how the business worked. When she came back, she partnered with Gawad Kalinga and the Philippine Carabao Center to start Karabella Dairy, a social enterprise that works with carabao farmers to make ice cream using carabao milk.

Her greatest source of inspiration is Peachy Pacquing, whom she considers her mentor in life and in marketing. Previously a CEO of a large company, Peachy realized that her mission was to equip the younger generation in making the world a better place. She moved on to create various initiatives and train people to see the world differently. Erika met Peachy when they collaborated on Karabella’s marketing efforts. The professional relationship blossomed into a friendship. Erika draws her strength and motivation from Peachy’s example.

Erika faces specific challenges whenever she’s out in the field. When she meets a group of farmers for the first time, she’s compelled to “act appropriately” and even bring along a man that she trusts just to feel safe. However, Erika does her best to take the good with the bad. Her job allows her to meet all kinds of people, all of whom are doing their best to help make this world a better place.
