Unyx Sta. Ana

Chief Innovator and Collaborator of Footwear Artisans

“I’m a shoemaker’s geek daughter,” Unyx Sta. Ana, co-founder and managing director of Zapateria, says by way of introducing herself. Unyx launched the community of Zapateria with her father in February 2018, with the mission of nurturing a new generation of footwear-makers and designers. She wanted to be able to keep the heritage of shoe-making alive while also introducing modern creativity.

Her family has always been supportive of her, being in the industry for five generations, emboldening her to find her own identity and to nurture her relationships with other people.

Unyx wants to continue her mission with Zapateria in Marikina, to spread her love of shoemaking and the heritage of the craft. She wants to be able to expand their cause outside of the city of Marikina, to work with even more makers and designers, and to be part of a thriving footwear industry—one that she helped build.

Just be yourself, and believe in what you have. Project confidence—that matters a lot, and just pursue what you’re passionate about. Be real and never doubt yourself. If you do doubt yourself, just shake it off and get back to doing your own thing.
